Jasper Ryman's Wrong Way Up MTB Challenge
Jasper Ryman
My Story
For years I have thought about taking on Lands End to John O’Groats. It’s a cycling itch that needs scratching. My only issue with the challenge is that I really don’t want to do it on a road bike - I don’t want to be around cars! So here we are: a mountain bike laden with food, camping and cycling gear and 1200 (ish) miles of mostly off-road - a challenge I’ve called Wrong Way Up.
I am planning on doing the majority of this by bike-packing, sleeping under the stars, squeezing in the odd B&B and YHA to allow the occasional creature comfort and hopefully a hot bath!
Over lockdown I reached my 10 year milestone at Oak Creative and Holiday Extras, which meant I’d clocked up enough years for a 4 week sabbatical via their amazing employee loyalty scheme. I really must thank them for supporting me in this challenge and allowing me this incredible opportunity.
I wanted to do something big for it, and I also wanted to give something back: I have chosen a charity to support that I have had the privilege of being involved in since launch: The Evie Dove Foundation
The foundation was set up by her parents when Evie tragically passed away in 2021 at the age of 13 after a long battle with cancer. Evie's braveness throughout her illness was inspirational. The foundations purpose is to help sick children and save young lives by sponsoring the education and training of talented and passionate paediatric medical professionals. With help and financial support, they will develop skills and expertise to provide cutting edge medical and pastoral care when children and their families need it most.
